About GT Weld Testing LLC
In early 2016, the President of the weld testing division approached Geoffrey Thorn to open and manage the new division. At the time, Thorn was the Assistant Corporate Quality Control Manager for STIS in Bridge City, Texas, located in Southeast Texas (SETX). Thorn agreed to the proposition and went to work right away. He found the location, did the fit out (which included construction and installation of weld testing booths, installation of welding machines, installation of a complete machine shop, and electrical infrastructure upgrades), development of client relationships, recruitment of qualified staff, the setup of local support vendors, along with managing daily operation and location finances.
Within the first year, ALS Maverick integrated a Non Destructive Examination (NDE) group into the facility. Thorn oversaw the division’s operations and finances as well. In 2019, Thorn proposed ALS Maverick transition from the SWLA area into the SETX area. This proposal was mainly due to Thorn’s close ties to the industry in SETX along with the upcoming expansion projects moving into the SETX area.
In April of 2020, ALS Maverick upper management advised Thorn to begin laying off employees due to the COVID-19 Virus outbreak. The Virus put a strain on the revenue stream due to the downfall of the oil and gas economy in the area. The Port Neches location has been fully operational since that time. The facility has not closed.
Thorn continues to maintain client relationships and daily operations, even with the weekly uptick in revenues. Prior to the layoff, daily operations were performed with several employees, including a Certified Welding Inspector, a machine shop helper, an office manager
and a receptionist. Thorn went from physically working on average 8 to 10 hour days to now working an average of 14 to 16 hour days to keep business operations afloat and his clients content with the services provided.

Geoffrey Thorn
Owner/General Manager
A native to Southwest LA, Geoffrey began his welding career with Turner Industries in 1986. Over the next 10 years, he worked as a welder for various companies, throughout the United States, performing on turn-arounds and other large and small projects.
In 1995, Geoffrey received his CWI and continued to weld as well as supervise welding projects. He then took a position as a welding superintendent for Ohmstede Industrial Services. Over the 14 year tenure, he spend the last 4 years as the Corporate Welding Engineer writing all weld procedures for 5 exchanger manufactoring facilities.
Taylor McDonald
Owner/General Manager
Taylor came to GT Weld Testing with many years of welding inspection and quality control experience. Prior to, he worked for successful companies such as GE Oil and Gas and Maverick Weld Testing Labratories. He has several years of experience as a certified welding inspector (CWI).
Taylor has established himself as a respected inspector because of his love for Christ and dedication to establishing a Christ like atmosphere here at GT Weld testing. His favorite verse to use for the industry is Matthew 4:19 which Jesus says “Come, follow me, and I will send you out to fish for people.” which represents the purpose of life to grow the Kingdom of God.
In his own words, “I have had many mentors in my years of experience working in a weld testing lab, however, I am blessed to have had the opportunity to work under Scott Witkowski and his wealth of knowledge and respect in this industry.”
